Jerry McKellar is rapidly gaining recognition in the art world. He retired from a busy, full-time dental practice in October of 1994 to devote more time to his art career.

Characteristic of his work is his realistic style and use of impeccable detail. His professional background as a dentist is reflected in the structural accuracy of the facial anatomy in his busts and figures. His bronzes range from wildlife to human figures which focus on an accurate depiction of the culture, ritual, or tribal affiliation. Notable are his Native American dancers and several African tribes. He spends many weeks each year traveling in different parts of the world doing photographic studies which inspire future work.

An artist who is both accomplished and inventive, he is constantly expanding his type and subject matter. Most recently he began experimenting with a variety of patina effects and several abstract contemporary bronzes. His diversity of style often prompts viewers to believe the sculptures are created by more than one artist.

"I feel that a variety of approaches keeps me inspired and unpredictable, so the work is always fresh." - Jerry McKellar

When creating representational pieces, attention to detail, both anatomical and historical, are of prime concern to the artist. The resulting pieces have won awards and praise such as the following:

"Your detail is so fine -- It gives me great pride to be part of the culture. Through you, our spirit lives." - Terry Eaglefeather, Chippewa/Cree (Feb. '96).
