In my creative imagination, a war knife has a stout, sharp blade and a slightly longer handle than a regular knife. Moose Jaw, also a part of my imagination, used a piece of snowflake obsidian for the blade which was then hafted to a hefty beaver chewed willow stick which was decorated with brass tacks and then wrapped with brain tanned moose hide.
In honor of Moose Jaw, I told his story in the peyote stitched beadwork. The moose wrap trails off the handle into rolled fringe finished with tin cones that make a wonderful sound when the knife is handled. The brain tanned deerskin sheath was decorated with a bone bead and grouse feathers. The overall length of this knife is 14 1/2 inches. |
