The Indians in this painting are on an overlooking hill one mile northeast of the Madison Buffalo Jump. From here they could spot game in the Gall at in, Madison, and Jefferson Valleys, these Indians have spotted a large herd of buffalo on the plain below to the south. The buffalo are on the western edge of the Gallatin Valley with the Spanish Peaks in the background. If the Indians saw buffalo in this area, they would attempt to haze them toward the jump and stampede them over it.
